WBHS presents an Inter-Schools Basketball Tournament annually in October and enters teams in age group tournaments and festivals such as the Jenny Orchard Invitational Tournament in KwaZulu Natal, and the Cape Metro annual Championships.

Cricket

Developing World Class Sportsmen

Mr Esmund van Wyk

Director of Cricket

With over 150 years of cricketing excellence, cricket forms a foundational part of Wynberg’s history, with numerous Wynberg boys going on to first-class cricket careers at provincial, county, and international levels.

Wynberg cricket is proud to have produced the SA Schools U18 captains, Juan James and Beni Hansen in 2022 and 2023.The WBHS First-Class Cricket Register provides a rich timeline of the school’s contribution to the game, with international players including Kyle Verreynne, David Bedingham, former England captain, Allan Lamb, and arguably the world’s greatest ever all-rounder, Jacques Kallis.

Cross Country

Developing Discipline & Endurance

Cross Country at Wynberg offers boys the opportunity to compete at a high level while developing discipline and endurance. Students run on various tracks, both on and around the school campus and at other schools in the region weekly. Students are trained by our dedicated coaches to ensure maximum development.

Our cross country team at Wynberg Boys’ High School embodies the spirit of determination, perseverance, and camaraderie. With a rich tradition of excellence, our athletes lace up their shoes and hit the trails, pushing their limits and representing our school with pride. Led by dedicated coaches and fueled by passion, our team embraces the challenge of every race, whether it’s tackling rugged terrain or sprinting towards the finish line. Through grit and teamwork, we strive for victory while fostering a community that celebrates each member’s personal achievements. Join us on the journey to greatness as we run towards success in every stride!

Cycling

Two Wheels, Endless Possibilities

Mr Bryan Punt

In 2023, Wynberg Boys’ High School added cycling as an official sport, across both summer and winter terms. While WBHS has produced top level cyclists for decades, the development of a mountain bike track on our campus provided the essential facilities to foster broader participation and professional coaching.  This development signifies the school’s continued commitment to promoting both team sports and individual athleticism . The inaugural Mountain Bike (MTB) Track Ride marks the official opening of this new sporting initiative.

Wynberg Boys’ High School has a strong golfing heritage, producing provincial schools’ players and professional players on various circuits. This event provides an opportunity for golf enthusiasts to secure their four-ball and contribute to the school’s fundraising initiatives.

The golf day event usually takes place at the Westlake Golf Course, a popular venue for such activities. For more details on participating or supporting the next golf day event, it’s recommended to follow the school’s official announcements or directly contact the school.
