Headmaster, Mr Rowan Algie’s Magazine Report:

Over the past eight years in this article I have tried to highlight those events which were special to that year. This year will be no exception.

1992 will always be remembered for the hectic rapid decisions which had to be taken concerning the possible transition from a state school to a state-aided school (Model C). The School Management Council, with the consent of parents, went ahead with the change in status. The immediate impact was that parents now had to accept greater financial responsibility. However, parents now also have the opportunity to play a more influential role in formulating school policy through the School Management Council.

The addition to school facilities continued in 1992. A school museum has been built and should be fitted and stocked by the end of the year. This handsome addition has been the result of a generous donation in memory of Mr Eric Tasker, one of Wynberg’s teaching greats.

This year the school has also initiated a Scholarship Fund which in its initial year topped R150 000,00 in capital. The following scholarships are now available: The Old Boys’ Union Scholarship, Mathew Family Scholarships, Lennox Scholarship, Rotary Scholarship and PTA Scholarships. A Scholarship Committee has been formed.

I leave Wynberg at the end of this year knowing that it has been a privilege to be headmaster of this school and thankful for the meaning it has given my life. Rosemary and I leave being extremely proud of Wynberg Boys’ High.
