Wynberg’s Service Pillar: Welcomes, Farewells, and an Appeal for Assistance

Friday 20 November 2020: We take pleasure in welcoming Ms Bulelwa Mhlomi as the 2021 Head of Wynberg Service. Ms Mhlomi takes over the reins from WBHS stalwart, Mr Rodney Inglis, who retires at the end of 2020.

As one of the 4 Pillars of Wynberg, WBHS prioritises service, understanding the importance to enshrine in all learners the need to give back, both to the school and our wider community. Boys are encouraged at all times to consider how they can contribute, both in the context of day to day school life and in the world. The school actively facilitates the development of all students in this way, offering courses and opportunities to allow them to further themselves in their growth toward relevant and contributing citizenship.

While Ms Mhlomi admits to feeling daunted stepping into Mr Inglis’ “very big shoes” she is confident and enthusiastic about heading the portfolio and working with the new student leadership for 2021. At the recent Prefect Induction Service, Christopher Kleynhans, received his Service Prefect blazer from Reece Mulholland, 2020 student leader and a recipient of the Duke of Edinburgh / President’s Award. We wish the 2021 team well as they take on the tasks and challenges of the year ahead.

Service Drive: Hand Sanitiser & Tissues Collection

Sanitiser & Tissue service driveWBHS is partnering with eight other schools in our area to collect items to make up Christmas packs for the elderly in our community. These packs will contain much-needed necessities.

The elderly are too often neglected and forgotten. We want to express our respect and appreciation for these beautiful people by giving them these packs. Helping to collect the items is a great way to be of service. We ask you to please contribute to this most needed drive to help them during this festive season.

Donations may be left at Reception or, if more convenient, your son can drop them off at the prefects’ common room. This drive ends on the 25th of November 2020.
