Sunday 24 January 2021: Circular 4 – Update, Grades 9 to 12 Opening of School Term 1
The recent announcement by the Department of Basic Education (DBE) regarding the opening of schools for the 2021 academic year has necessitated us sending this correspondence.
Sadly, we once again find ourselves in a state of confusion with everyone waiting expectantly for the next announcement and/or Government Gazette. Contradictory statements coming through thick and fast from National and Provincial Departments, the Unions, and Parent associations such as the Governing Body Foundation and Fedsas further muddy the waters.
These circumstances left Mr de Waal no option but to call an emergency Senior Executive meeting on Monday 18 January to plot the way forward. At this meeting, it was decided that we could not have another year of chopping and changing. Our parents and students deserve better.
The Senior Executive has determined one timetable and administration system to operate throughout the year to accommodate all eventualities: normal classroom teaching, fully online teaching, or (the most likely scenario) a blended learning model.
