Headmaster’s New Year Message: Keep Embracing Kindness

Sunrise over the Silverhurst Fields

Saturday 31 December 2022

Dear Wynberg Families, Staff, Old Boys, and Community

As the final curtain draws on an eventful year, I am looking forward filled with excitement and expectation at all the opportunities the new year will bring. However, now is also a time for reflection and introspection on what was and possibly could have been.

I firmly believe that one needs to learn from missed opportunities and use them as a foundation and springboard for the future. I am sure that the year 2023 will bring ample opportunity to embrace these lessons, and my wish is that we will all, with sensitivity and awareness, build on these to learn and grow as members of the Wynberg community.

I came across the following quote by Nikki Banas recently and have adjusted it slightly to remind us of what is really important during our journey through the year 2023:

You never really know the true impact you have on those around you. You never know how much someone needed that smile you gave them or how much your kindness turned their life around. So don’t wait to be kind. Don’t wait for someone else to be kind first. Don’t wait for better circumstances or for someone to change first. Just be kind because you never know how much someone needs it.

Let us all keep on embracing kindness as part of our Wynberg DNA in 2023! Enjoy the time spent with your precious sons and loved ones and I look forward to the exciting journey that awaits us in the new year!
