5 December 2017: At Littlewood Boarding House we hold great store in our position as the backbone of the school, our adopted motto Firmamentum Ludi infers a foundation of school support, with 2017 seeing our Littlewood boarders once again setting the standard and tone for Wynberg Boys’ High.
Hostel head prefect 2017, Abenathi Botha, along with his prefect body, did a superb job in building on the foundations and traditions of the past, helping to develop a modern boarding environment that is ever more friendly and welcoming.
In the year we celebrated 60 years in our current home-from-home, the boarding house was the fullest it has ever been accommodating 110 boys and an ever-expanding waiting list.
Our Diamond Jubilee coincided with the year in which the school’s house names were changed to reflect a closer historic relevance. An exhaustive consultative process by Wynberg’s Social Cohesion Committee saw Littlewood retain its name (to the joy of boarders past and present). My thanks to all for their enthusiastic participation in the process.
As always, our boarders threw themselves wholeheartedly into the inter-house Friedlander Shield competition-winning most of the major events – gala, relays, and sports day – to finish in 2nd position behind Lorie, the deserved 2017 winners.
Major developments followed on the projects of 2016, with the boarding house now sporting three state-of-the-art bathrooms, a welcome upgrade to the dated communal showers of years gone by.
Littlewood’s contribution to the Service Pillar continued to inspire with regular sandwich-making efforts, soup kitchens, and our annual Santa Shoebox collection where the house collected 170 gift boxes for children in orphanages.
At our annual Christmas Dinner and Prize Giving the following boys were awarded:
