Wynberg Boys Highschool has a myriad of support and general usage facilities across the campus. The school’s 35-hectare campus is set on the eastern buttress of Table Mountain, in the heart of Cape Town.
Doted around the campus are a charming mix of modern and historic buildings, characteristic of the Cape architecture, giving the school a rich blend environment. The grounds are immaculately maintained by a dedicated support staff, making any walk through the school a garden tour.

The campus further includes a coffee shop, a boarding house for 110 students, a 1000-seater Hall, a 160-seater auditorium and music centre, outdoor amphitheatre, museum, staff accommodation, numerous well-cared-for fields, and a cafeteria – all embraced securely in the heart of the historic Wynberg greenbelt in close proximity to Wynberg Boys’ Junior and the Wynberg Girls’ High & Junior Schools.

Algie Pavilion

The Algie Pavilion on the Jacques Kallis Oval is named in honour of the 11th Headmaster of WBHS, Rowan Algie 1984 – 1992, whose vision saw the development of the cricket oval and pavilion. 

The Algie Pavilion at Wynberg Boys’ High School is a significant facility that holds a special place in the school’s sports history. It serves as a venue for various school events, especially those related to sports, providing a space for students to gather and celebrate their sporting achievements. The Pavilion is named after former headmaster Mr. Rowan Algie, and it stands as a testament to the school’s commitment to fostering a strong sporting culture and providing modern, well-equipped facilities for its students.

The Pavilion also plays a vital role in honoring the achievements of individuals who have contributed significantly to the school’s sporting legacy

Bill Bowden Pavilion

Named after former Headmaster, William ‘Bill’ Bowden, the Pavilion was a gift to the school from the Wynberg Old Boys’ Union, opening in 1990 ahead of the schools’ 150th celebrations. Known as the ‘home of Wynberg Old Boys’, the Pavilion is central to school hospitality.  .

The Bill Bowden Pavilion at Wynberg Boys’ High School has been the focus of a significant upgrade initiative, with the goal of expanding its functionality to accommodate increased usage. The first phase of the upgrade, aimed at extending the cover around the Hawthornden Field side, is slated for completion by 19th March. This extension will provide full summer shade and protection from inclement weather, further enhancing the Pavilion’s suitability for various functions. The subsequent phase will involve extending the Pavilion towards the Alf Morris Centre to incorporate a built-in braai area and a pizza oven. The project has garnered substantial support from the school’s Old Boys’ Union, with various individuals and organizations contributing to its realization. The Pavilion serves as a central gathering point for school events and celebrations, reflecting the school’s commitment to providing modern and versatile facilities for its students and alumni.

Littlewood Boarding House

Boarding at WBHS was introduced in 1892 by Headmaster ET Littlewood, after whom the current boarding house was named in 1957. Built on the site of the original hostel, Littlewood has been the home-from-home to generations of boarders, and proudly claims Firmamentum Ludi as its unofficial motto – ‘the backbone of the school’. 

The Littlewood Boarding House at Wynberg Boys’ High School offers a structured and communal living environment, fostering camaraderie and independence among its residents. Providing wider options for students and promoting the development of lifelong friendships, this boarding facility emphasizes unselfish living and tolerance. The house is under the personal supervision of a senior staff member, his wife, resident masters, and student masters, ensuring a supportive and well-run institution. The philosophy of boarders returning home over weekends to maintain family contact is supported, and boarding fees are payable annually, termly, or monthly

Clegg Hall

The main school hall, venue for assemblies, music, and theatre is named after the 8th WBHS Headmaster, William ‘Bill’ Clegg who succeeded ET Littlewood in 1919, and under whose stewardship saw the emergence of the house and prefect system at Wynberg Boys’ High. 

The Clegg Hall at Wynberg Boys’ High School is a significant venue where various events, including musical and theatrical performances, take place. For instance, the Wynberg Boys’ Acting Association’s production of the Little Shop of Horrors, a horror-comedy rock musical set in the 1960s, was hosted at the Clegg Hall.

The hall serves as a platform for students to showcase their talents and skills in the performing arts, contributing to the vibrant cultural atmosphere of the school.

Kaplan House

The Kaplan House at Wynberg Boys’ High School is part of the school’s boarding facilities. It is one of the houses that provide a structured and communal living environment for the students, fostering camaraderie and independence. The house is under the supervision of dedicated staff members and offers a supportive and well-run institution for the students. Like other boarding houses, it promotes the development of lifelong friendships and emphasizes unselfish living and tolerance.

The boarding fees are payable annually, termly, or monthly, and the house provides opportunities for students to maintain family contact over weekends. The boarding facility aims to provide a nurturing and inclusive environment for the students, enabling them to thrive academically and personally. The official residence of the WBHS Headmaster in Silverhurst Manor is named after Wynberg old Boy and lifelong benefactor of the School, Mendel Kaplan. Mendel presided over the extensive refurbishment and restoration of the historic manor house that has been in the school’s possession since the 1970s.

School Shop

The school shop in located in the D Corridor and stocks school supporters’ gear and memorabilia, alongside pre-loved quality secondhand uniform items and sports kit. The shop opens every Wednesday during term time, or as advertised in the weekly family newsletters.

It is the official stockist of school colors, blazers, socks, and other essential items. Additionally, the school has partnered with Canterbury clothing for most sports kit, and these items can be ordered online through the dedicated WBHS Canterbury website. The school shop also provides information about the official uniform stockist and guidelines for purchasing non-branded items.
