Cricket South Africa Honours WBHS with the Blue Chip Award for 2018

Headmaster, Mr Jan de Waal, with Wynberg’s Cricket South Africa Blue Chip Award

At the end of the 2017/18 schools’ cricket season, Wynberg Cricket was honoured with a Blue Chip Award by Cricket South Africa. Wynberg Boys’ High School is proud, yet humbled, to be the only school in the Western Province to be recognised as meeting the highest standards for cricket development across CSA’s checklist of essentials: “number of teams per age group, number of matches played, coaching infrastructure & qualifications, facility infrastructure, and representation across the school pipeline.”

Wynberg’s Director of Cricket, Andrew Wylie: ”For Jan de Waal, Mike Engelbrecht, and I to be invited to Newlands for ‘a presentation’ was exciting but curious, We went, and were caught in the slips by the media. What an incredible award for my old school to receive, It is a huge honour for Wynberg Cricket.”

With another cricket trophy on Wynberg’s shelf, Andrew expands: “Wynberg Cricket is pure teamwork: our groundsmen, coaches, players, and our Wynberg Families band together with a passion for our brand and cricket in all its formats. A CSA Blue Chip Award must be shared by all, and serve as encouragement to stay on track to seek excellence as one of SA Cricket’s foremost schools.”

CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) has congratulated those schools that have achieved Blue Chip status for their achievements over the past year.

The Blue Chip Schools programme, which was launched at the start of the 2015-16 season, is designed to reward schools committed to providing an environment that will enable young players to exploit their full potential as sportspeople and to become the best cricketers they can be. Read more on CSA’s website
