Wednesday 24 March 2021: It was a real pleasure to accept SACS’s invitation to participate in an Autumn Athletics Meeting after so many months of sparse sporting competition. Well done to all the athletes, and staff for officiating. And a big thank you to SACS for their generous hospitality.
The last time South Africa’s two oldest schools met in athletics was on the Hawthornden Field in 2019 with the embankment crowded with cheering supporters of both schools – while this most recent encounter was socially distanced, and devoid of crowds, the spirit shone through and some outstanding athletic prowess was on display. Mr Estian van der Merwe, Teacher in Charge of Athletics, writes:
This was only the second time we’ve competed against SACS in recent years, and we hope to make this meeting an annual event. Well done to all our boys who competed and thank you to SACS for their hospitality.
