View photos of the Grade 10s assisting at Grootkloof Primary
Tuesday 19 November 24: With all our Grade 10s home safely from their Nyamezela experience – 12 days hiking in the Cederberg Wilderness and providing service assistance to Grootkloof Primary School – Deputy Headmaster, Mr Peter van Schalkwyk, pens an open letter of thanks to our Grade 10 parents and guardians, and indeed, all who gave so generously toward the project:
Dear Grade 10 Parents and Guardians
Service Project at Grootkloof Primary
We trust that you are enjoying having your sons back at home!
We take this opportunity to thank you all for your donations to Grootkloof Primary School in the Cederberg. We were truly blown away by the incredible scale of your generosity. The principal, the teacher, and the children of the school were extremely grateful for the donations and the work our boys did at the school. This small farm school and its hostel have minimal resources and Wynberg’s efforts were highly appreciated.
Some of us visited the school on Saturday and found this letter stuck on one of the walls in a hostel room. I think it really captures the appreciation of these children:
Our work at Grootkloof Primary can be summarised as follows:
- Our boys painted, fixed, and cleaned up the school and hostel.
- Each child in the school received a gift pack of clothes and other items from your generous donations.
- The toys and games donated were placed in the classrooms at the school.
- Our boys held a Christmas party for the children of the school on Monday morning.
- Santa arrived at the school with a Christmas present for each child, bought using the money raised from Civvies Days.
Please use the link to view photos taken at the school showing our boys at work and the efforts made at the school.
Within the next day or two, we will publish a link to all the Nyamezela photos. We await more photos overnight from the guides and staff just returned.
