Littlewood Hostel – Handyman
Wynberg Boys’ High School is looking for a skilled Hostel Handyman to ensure that Littlewood Boarding House is maintained and well-kept. Solid self-management skills, attention to detail, and the capacity for prioritisation are requirements for this position.
Total cost to company R180 000-R200 000 p.a.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Drivers Licence.
- Proven experience in building maintenance or service/utilities environment with experience in plumbing and building work, including painting, electrical, and carpentry work.
- Previous school/hostel environment working experience is advantageous.
- English language fluency
- Clear criminal record
KEY PERFORMANCE FIELDS
- Regular preventative maintenance.
- Ensure all maintenance tasks are completed within the buildings e.g. door handles, shelves, painting, minor tiling, carpentry, leaks, installing blinds, etc.
- Upkeep of external areas.
- Movement of furniture, supplies, etc.
- General electrical and plumbing repairs.
- Ensure all furniture and fittings are in full compliance with our standards of safety and comfort.
- After-hours emergencies (burglary, plumbing, power failure at a school function, irrigation malfunction, storm damage, etc.)
- Driving, collecting, and delivering as required.
- Maintain safe conditions and safe working practices within all the facilities.
- Adhere to statutory health and safety procedures and policies.
- Ensure all fire signage and equipment are monitored and recorded as legislated.
- Do regular fire alarm tests.
- Upkeep of grounds and gardens on all sites.
- Deal with all (boys, staff, external) with courtesy and promptness at all times.
- Any other duties required by the Hostel Manager and the Superintendent.

- The ability to prioritise is also essential.
- You need to be a strong team player, prepared to get your hands dirty.
